ORDER OF MERIT RULES

General

The concept of the Order of Merit Trophy originated from a suggestion at a general meeting that the club reward players who regularly attended games.  After much discussion the following format evolved and Keith Davies donated the Order of Merit Shield.

Qualification and duration

The trophy can be won by any playing financial member of the Army Golf Club and is played for between the first game in Feb and the second last game of the regular season (usually the last game in Nov).

Format

1.         The trophy is awarded to the person who scores the most points over the season.

2.         Point scoring system is as follows:

a.                   5 pts for a win;

b.                  4 pts for second;

c.                   3 pts for third;

d.                  2 pts for playing to handicap for the course eg. Net 72 or 36 Pts etc; and

e.                   1 point for attendance.

3.         Players can only be awarded points once for each game. eg The winning score of  Net 68 will only receive 5 pts. The winner does not also score 2 pts for playing to handicap and 1 pt for attending.

4.         In the event of a tie, the person who has played the most games will win on a count back.  If both players have played the same number of games, then the person with the most 1 pts will be the winner.  If there is still a tie, then the most 2 pts scored will win.  The reason for this count back system is to reward regular attendees, which is how the trophy originated as previously stated.
